Cylinder head cover function

The basic function is to cover and seal the cylinder head, keep the oil inside, and isolate dirt, moisture and other pollutants. This may sound simple, but it is usually a difficult aspect to do well. The cylinder head cover is used to isolate the oil from the air. Oil mist will be formed during the operation of the engine. The cold inner surface of the cylinder head cover collects oil mist, which condenses the oil and flows down to the oil housing. The cylinder head cover is also responsible for crankcase ventilation. When the piston moves in the cylinder, pressure builds up inside the engine. If left unchecked, this pressure will cause each seal to leak, resulting in reduced engine efficiency. To avoid this, a pipe is used to connect the cylinder head cover and the intake port for combustion ventilation air. The pipe can be connected using a slotted hose connector, a threaded pipe connector or a quick change connector.

The oil baffle or filter in the cylinder head cover is used to prevent the oil from flowing to the intake port as much as possible. Another function of the cylinder head cover is to act as an oil filler. The structure can be as simple as a hole, in which an oil filler cap can be screwed; Or a more complicated oil filling pipe. The cylinder head cover can also serve as a sensor mounting bracket, including camshaft position and camshaft timing sensors. Of course, whether these sensors are included or not depends on the complexity of the engine.
